Podiatry Camberwell

Foot and ankle injury care in Camberwell

Podiatry @ CSSM

The podiatry team at Camberwell Sports and Spinal Medicine diagnose and treat all conditions of the foot and lower limb.

Our feet will walk more than 128,000 kilometres in our lifetime which is equivalent to three times around the world.  And yet, often our feet are the most neglected parts of our bodies. Our feet also have the unique responsibility of combining movement with weight bearing and putting load on each of the 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments that make up the foot.

Variations in foot structure or biomechanics; which is how our bodies move, can result in pain, deformity, disability or just tired feet and legs.

Common problems treated by podiatrists include:

  • Sporting injuries such as strains, sprains and stress fractures
  • Heel and plantar fascia pain
  • Biomechanical issues such as flat feet and over pronation
  • Achilles tendon and calf pain
  • Foot care for Children including biomechanical issues when walking.
  • Bunions, hammertoes, growing pains, ingrown toenails, blisters, corns and calluses
  • Chronic conditions such as numbness and poor circulation associated with Diabetes

Our team prides itself on providing expert, comprehensive foot care solutions.  We offer both general podiatry services as well as treating sports injuries and chronic conditions.

How Can Podiatry Help?

Our podiatry team are CSSM’s leaders in managing problems associated with the foot, ankle and lower limb.

Our areas of clinical interest include running gait analysis, dance injury management, orthotics and sports footwear consultation.

During your consultation, our podiatry team will assess your feet and gait using the latest technology to identify any issues. Using a treadmill, high speed video recorder and specialised biomechanical analysis software, your walking and running technique is assessed frame by frame to detect any biomechanical faults. From there, a treatment program can then be implemented and tailored to individual needs.  This may include any or a combination of manual therapy,  stretches, strengthening exercises, orthotics or footwear modifications.

Our team prides itself on delivering the best advice and easy to follow instructions. You will be supported every step of the way during your recovery. In many instances, you can progress your treatment at home with videos of exercises to remind you of the correct technique.  Our aim is to get you back to doing what you love as quickly as possible; whether that may be to school or work, weekend sport or competing at the highest level.

Depending on your condition and presenting complaint, treatment frequency will vary. At the time of your consultation, your podiatrist will outline the expected course of treatment and management.

GPs and specialists seeking the best advice often refer their patients to a Podiatrist for foot and leg care however, referrals are not necessary. For a Podiatry consultation simply make an appointment with Camberwell Sports and Spinal Medicine directly by calling (03) 9889 1078.

Referrals are required for Veteran Affairs, Workers Compensation or the Program for Aids for Disabled People (PADP).

Subsequent sessions generally last for 20-30 minutes.
