Physiotherapy helps muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints work to their full potential and can help repair damage to the musculoskeletal system by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness.
There are three phases of injury that Physiotherapists’ focus on – preventative, corrective and rehabilitative.
Treatment may involve exercise programs to improve mobility and strengthen muscles, joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, and muscle re-education to improve control.
Whether it’s a sudden accident or injury arising from sport or work, preparing for an event such as childbirth or a sporting goal, pre and post-surgery, even general ageing – the aim is to develop a treatment plan to get your body in peak condition.
During your initial consultation, your Physiotherapist will take a thorough history to gain an understanding of your injury and circumstances that could have led to your condition. They will then examine your body and identify the type, source, and cause of symptoms. Depending on your injury assessment could include functional movement screening, observation of walking or running techniques, muscle strength testing using our hand-held dynamometer, joint movement testing and any special ligament, muscle, or cartilage tests. The most likely diagnosis will then be discussed with you, and a treatment plan with then be devised taking into consideration your expectations and goals. Treatment can include hands on massage, dry needling, joint mobilisation, manual muscle stretching manoeuvres, joint manipulation.

In the instance that you suffer from a chronic condition, your GP can refer you to an Allied Health Professional, such as a Physiotherapist, for up to five sessions each calendar year. Not all conditions qualify for this program and there will still be an out of pocket expense for these services.
