Research has shown that that in the event of an injury to the spine, pelvis, hip or groin, exercising the deep muscles of "the core" may lead to a speedier recovery and reduce the risk of re-injury. The difficulty for many patients is that they are unable to determine if they are recruiting the right muscles or even if these muscles are engaged at all.
Real time ultrasound imaging allows practitioners to view 'the core' muscles of the abdomen, pelvis and pelvic floor as the contraction occurs. This allows an accurate assessment of the quality of contraction and the rate of muscle fatigue.
Ultrasound is non-invasive and completely safe as there is no radiation. If you are suffering from pain that isn't responding to treatment or exercise, ask your practitioner whether exercise guided by RTUS is right for you.
